The village of Chéticamp is situated in the province of Nova Scotia in Canada. More precisely, the village is found on the Cabot Trail on the west coast of Cape Breton Island. This small fishing community is surrounded by the Gulf of Saint Lawrence to the west, the Cape Breton Highlands National Park to the north-east and the Appalachian mountain range to the south-east. These mountains, along with water temperatures, are the reasons we receive such high winds, mainly in the fall and winter seasons. These winds are called “suêtes” (pronounced sw-at) and can sometimes reach speeds of up to 200 km/h.
